TrademarkTrademarks A trademark is a sign that distinguishes the goods and services of one trader from those of others. Typically a trademark can be words (including personal names), indications, designs, letters, characters, numerals, figurative elements, colours, sounds, smells, the shape of the goods or their packaging or any combination of these. A sign must be capable of being represented graphically in order for it to be registered as a trademark. A Certificate of Trademark Registration will be issued within 6 months. The valid period for the registration is 10 years and subsequent renewal is allowed and unlimited. After registration your trademarks, you could stop others to using your trademarks. Hong Kong Policemen and Customs and Excise Department will handle the case who stealing trademarks.
Patent A patent protects your invention by giving you, the patent owner, a legal right to prevent others from manufacturing, using, selling or importing your patented invention.
Design Registered designs protect only the appearance of products. Registered design owners have the right to prevent others from manufacturing, importing, using, selling or hiring the design product. Registered design protection is renewable for periods of five years up to a maximum of 25 years.
